Loopra is a small instrument for unhurried listening. Thirty-two original sound layers turn at different lengths, so their encounters keep changing.
The pads and bowed bass overlap to make a continuous bed. Bells, felt piano, fine ripples, discreet arpeggios, soft breaths and rare little calls drift through it. Every pitched layer belongs to the same musical mode.
- Number of loops
- Sets how many layers are enabled. Individual switches update this number too.
- New loop lengths
- Draws a new set of periods while keeping your chosen sounds.
- Harmonic complexity
- Moves from open, simple voicings to softly spaced seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth colors.
- Staging
- Places each layer between your ears and the horizon: near layers are dry and bright, far layers dark and washed in reverb. At zero, everything shares one room.
- Walking
- Lets layers drift slowly nearer and farther over several minutes.
- Space
- From a small room to a vast hall.
- Variation
- Every pass of a loop is played a little differently: slightly earlier or later, softer or louder. At zero, loops repeat exactly.
- Listening on
- Headphones use tiny differences between your ears to put sounds right beside them. On speakers, depth comes from level, darkness and reverb alone.
- Harmonic pad
- The warm foundation everything rests on. It has a level of its own, starting at 50 %, so you can hear the other layers through it.
- Silk & light
- A sustained veil of high notes that almost never stops. It starts at 12 % of its old level so that it does not pierce through the others; switch it on or off like any layer.
- The melody
- Friday Afternoon, after Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon: single notes, each on its own interval, so that the melodies are never written, they happen when the notes meet. The notes are the chord of this place and follow the key, the mode and the Harmonic complexity. Each one is checked against the long notes of the layers and against the other notes, so that nothing rubs.
- Timbres
- Richer: struck sounds fade from the top, with a soft touch of felt or glass. Classic: the original pure tones.
- Headphones · Solo
- Listen to one layer on its own, including layers that are switched off. A short audition plays immediately; the layer then follows its own loop. Click the same headphones again to restore your chosen mix.
- Save setup
- Keeps your selection, key, mode, volume and loop lengths as a small JSON file.
